Once a Westside News delivery boy, Tim Munro is now a jetsetting musician who is part of a Grammy Award-winning ensemble. Growing up in Toowong, the flautist's dream was to play in an orchestra but after a bold decision to fly to an audition on the other side of the world, Mr Munro landed a job that was beyond his wildest dreams.
"I did my undergraduate (degree) in music at uni and started thinking my dream job playing in an orchestra was out of reach," Mr Munro said.
"I was heading towards a career in admin when this wild and bizarre and amazing position came up in this ensemble that I'd had an interest in."
Within two months of flying to Chicago for the audition, Mr Munro's life changed dramatically.
"Within a year I had ticked off all of my professional goals and the people I have worked with have been beyond my childhood expectations," he said.
"In the last five years I have performed in 35 US states and in some places in Europe."
Mr Munro is flautist in the ensemble called "eighth blackbird". The eclectic sextet will perform on Saturday in King George Square from 7pm.
