To our Friends in the Arts Community,
Disruptions rippling from COVID-19 have placed the arts world in a previously incomprehensible position. To this, the arts world has responded with remarkable inspiration and extraordinary demonstrations of resiliency from creators, presenters, and funders.
Humans are moved more by feelings than by information, and the arts can succeed where policy and science are challenged. The arts are an interpretative bridge that moves information beyond the brain and into the heart of a population. Through emotional resonance the arts express what cannot be said or defined. The arts empathize with our struggle to understand the context of a new normal. The arts are essential now, and will be essential in our long-term recovery as a culture, a nation, and members of the global community.
#GivingTuesdayNow has been created to generate support for non-profit organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic. With so many friends across all the arts disciplines, we recognize that we are part of a larger community, and that artists and arts organizations we revere need help.
On May 5, 2020, Eighth Blackbird will be taking part in this effort by making (COVID-)19 contributions to artists and arts organizations to help them exist and thrive in the post-pandemic cultural recovery. We will also make 19 contributions to organizations on the front lines, such as first responders and food banks, working to return us to a world where we can bring people together again to experience emotional connectivity.
This 19/19 formula resonates with us, and is the way we are choosing to help. We hope that, if you are able, you would join us in making a contribution of any amount to organizations that are meaningful to you. We realize that not everyone is in a position to send financial support, but if you are, our support for each other during this time will make a difference.
Matthew and Lisa, and everyone on The Creative Team, at Eighth Blackbird
