This season marked our return to New York after over 2 years. A couple weeks ago we played at the Lincoln Center Atrium, last week we played at The Kitchen, and we’ll be coming back in July for Lincoln Center’s Out of Doors Festival. We decided to honor the occasion by throwing a benefit bash after our first of two performances at The Kitchen. Mario Batali generously offered his beautiful restaurant Del Posto for our cause, and we had almost fifty people come from near and far to celebrate with us with wine and delicious food. The dessert took us all by surprise because it was literally a table-full assortment of everything from cheesecake to tiramisu, “dolci abbondanza” indeed!
We had a successful silent auction that included a private house concert by Jeremy Denk and a framed first page manuscript of Nico Muhly’s Doublespeak, and both Jeremy and Nico were kind enough to join us for the evening. Mario gave one of the most heartfelt and eloquent toasts I’ve ever heard, but ended it with an even more memorable “cin cin, motherf******!” It was a good thing we had the day to recover before the next night’s performance.
Big thanks to Mario and his staff for making this evening possible, to The Kitchen for being such a wonderful venue to work with, and to all our friends who gave generously so we can keep doing what we do.
